What is the best alternative to Wise?
No provider replaces Wise for every transfer. Revolut fits users who want an account and card; OFX focuses on larger FX transfers and human support; Remitly offers varied remittance delivery; Glide adds stablecoin funding and broad fiat holding. Wise remains strong for mid-market-rate transfers with separately disclosed fees. Compare fresh quotes for your corridor.

1. Wise: still the benchmark for transparent conversion
Wise deserves to remain on the shortlist. As published August 2026 for U.S. customers, account registration and holding were free, conversion and sending fees started at 0.57%, and Wise said it used the mid-market rate. Receiving domestic non-wire payments in listed currencies was free, while receiving a USD wire or SWIFT payment cost $6.11. The strength is not that every route is cheapest; it is that the rate and explicit fee are separated clearly enough to compare.
As published August 2026, Wise's limits depended on how money was funded and delivered. Its U.S. help page listed a $1,000,000 personal per-transfer limit for eligible U.S. profiles, a $50,000 ACH bank-debit limit per 24 hours, and a $2,000 card limit per 24 hours. For USD payouts, it listed 0–3 working days for ACH, same or next working day for wire, and 1–6 working days for international SWIFT after the payment path reaches that stage.
2. Revolut: strongest when the account and plan matter too
Revolut is not merely a transfer quote. Its U.S. page combined a multi-currency account, card, transfers to 140+ countries, and holding in 25+ currencies. As published August 2026, transfers to another Revolut user carried no Revolut transfer fee, while international bank transfers carried a quoted fee. Standard-plan currency exchange had no additional fee during market hours inside a $1,000 monthly allowance, then a 0.5% fee above the allowance; Standard also charged 1% outside published FX-market hours.
Revolut’s U.S. marketing page said international bank transfers generally arrive in 3–5 business days and Revolut-to-Revolut transfers usually take about 20 seconds. Its help center also warned that correspondent institutions can deduct fees beyond Revolut’s visibility. For U.S. personal users, Revolut directs customers to check daily and weekly transfer limits under their plan in the app; particular routes can also impose limits. This makes the actual plan, day, counterparty, and route essential comparison inputs.
3. OFX: a deliberate option for larger transfers
OFX’s U.S. personal product covered 50+ currencies and more than 170 countries, offered round-the-clock human support, and displayed a $0 OFX fee in its personal quote example. As published August 2026, the minimum transfer was $150 across major currencies and OFX said it imposed no maximum transfer amount, though the sender’s bank could. The public page also said high-value and corporate customers receive customised rates.
As published August 2026, OFX's $0-fee language did not mean no conversion cost. Its U.S. personal-transfer material said the customer rate included an OFX margin, and its FAQ warned that an additional markup could apply on a weekend or certain market holidays. Compare OFX by the recipient amount, not by the transfer-fee row, and ask about receiving-bank or intermediary deductions.
4. Remitly: built around recipient delivery
As published August 2026, Remitly's differentiator was the last mile. Its U.S. page served 175+ countries and described bank-account, mobile-wallet, and cash-pickup receipt where available. Some corridors offered Express and Economy options. The published U.S. ceiling was $100,000 per transaction, but Remitly said the customer's limit could be lower based on verification, payment method, destination, transfer history, local rules, and the receiving method.
As published August 2026, Remitly did not offer one universal U.S. fee or rate: cost varied by destination, payment method, and delivery option and was shown before send. That is the right structure for remittances with heterogeneous cash and wallet networks, but it prevents a responsible article from declaring a single Remitly percentage. Treat welcome rates and first-transfer discounts separately from repeat-customer pricing.
5. Glide: stablecoin funding plus fiat money movement
Glide’s published product is differentiated at the funding layer. It supports deposits of USDC, USDT, and other listed stablecoins, conversion to fiat, holding and sending in 80+ fiat currencies, and payments to 180 countries through bank rails that include ACH, SEPA, Faster Payments, and SWIFT. That makes Glide a relevant Wise alternative for someone who already receives or holds stablecoins and otherwise needs a separate exchange before making a fiat transfer.
As published August 2026, Glide said its OSS platform added no markup and passed through underlying vendor charges. The schedule listed 1% for Bridge ACH, 1% for Noah global on/off-ramp, 1% for the Avenia BRL PIX off-ramp, 0.75% for IDRX Indonesian-rupiah off-ramp, and network gas at cost. Those are components, not an all-corridor promise: the page directs users to retrieve a live corridor quote, and it did not publish one universal delivery time or transfer ceiling.
How to choose without trusting a comparison table blindly
Run a five-provider quote test
Define one job
Fix the sender country, funding currency, recipient country, payout currency, beneficiary type, amount, and deadline.
Use the same funding method
A card-funded quote and a bank-funded quote are not comparable. Include any cost charged by the funding bank or card issuer.
Record amount received
Capture the rate, explicit fee, total debited, final recipient amount, delivery estimate, and warning about third-party deductions.
Remove temporary incentives
Calculate both the first-transfer price and the repeat price. Separate introductory rates, waived fees, and paid-plan allowances.
Check operational fit
Confirm the limit, required documents, cancellation policy, customer-support path, and whether the recipient can use the delivery method.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Is Wise always cheaper than Revolut?
No. Wise uses a disclosed transfer or conversion fee; Revolut cost depends on plan allowance, timing, transfer type, and recipient. Quote the same transfer at the same time, especially if a Revolut exchange would cross a monthly allowance or occur outside FX-market hours.
Which Wise alternative is best for a large transfer?
OFX is designed to quote larger transfers and publishes no provider-imposed maximum, while Wise publishes high limits for several USD funding and payout paths. Compare both, ask about documentation and receiving deductions, and never split a payment to avoid review.
Which provider is best for cash pickup?
Remitly is the clearest starting point among these five because it offers cash pickup in supported corridors. Availability, location, ID requirements, amount limit, fee, and rate are destination-specific.
Which alternative accepts stablecoins?
Glide explicitly publishes support for USDC, USDT, and other supported stablecoin deposits before conversion or fiat use. Confirm token, network, eligibility, ramp vendor, and the full pass-through quote before depositing.
Does “no transfer fee” mean the exchange is free?
No. OFX includes a margin in its customer rate; Revolut can add exchange fees based on plan and timing; and any provider can expose third-party or receiving-bank costs. Compare the final delivered amount against a contemporaneous benchmark.
Can I trust published transfer times?
Treat them as route-level estimates, not guarantees. Funding clearance, compliance review, weekends, intermediaries, and the receiving institution can change delivery. Use the dated estimate in your actual quote and keep the tracking reference.
Should a business use the same comparison?
Use the same cost method, but add beneficiary verification, approval controls, reconciliation exports, recurring-payment support, entity eligibility, and source-of-funds documentation. Personal pricing and limits may not apply to business accounts.
