Frequently asked questions
What is an ACH routing number?
An ACH (or ABA) routing number is a 9-digit code that identifies a US financial institution for domestic electronic payments — direct deposit, bill pay, and ACH transfers.
Is a routing number the same as a SWIFT code?
No. Routing numbers are for US domestic transfers. SWIFT/BIC codes identify banks for international wires. A US bank usually has both.
Where do I find my bank’s routing number?
On the bottom left of a paper check, in your online banking profile, or on a direct-deposit form. Banks sometimes use different numbers by state or product — confirm the one tied to your account.
Do all accounts at a bank share one routing number?
Not always. Large banks publish multiple routing numbers by region or product (checking vs. wire). Always use the number shown for your specific account.
How complete is this directory?
We index tens of thousands of US ACH routing numbers from the Federal Reserve ACH directory format. Numbers change — always confirm with your bank before funding a transfer.
