Airtel Payments Bank IFSC code

Airtel Payments Bank has no branch network to route around, so every account in the country shares a single IFSC: AIRP0000001. That makes the code the easy part. What actually bounces a transfer here is the ₹2 lakh ceiling the RBI puts on what a payments bank account may hold.

Which IFSC code do Airtel Payments Bank customers use?

AIRP0000001 — whichever city the account was opened in. Airtel Payments Bank issues no code per location the way a branch bank does; the whole institution sits behind one customer-facing entry in the IFSC directory, registered to Airtel Centre, Udyog Vihar Phase 4, Gurugram.

Airtel Payments Bank is India’s first payments bank, and it reaches customers through more than five lakh banking points — retailer counters, not branches with routing codes of their own.

How to find your IFSC and account number in the Airtel Thanks app

The IFSC never changes, so the number you actually have to look up is your account number.

  1. Open the banking section of the Airtel Thanks app

Airtel Payments Bank has no separate app — it lives inside the Airtel Thanks (My Airtel) app.

  2. Open your account details

Airtel points customers at its mobile banking app to find the IFSC. It should read AIRP0000001; if it does not, trust the app over this page.

  3. Ask for a passbook

The first passbook is issued free of charge, if you would rather work from paper.

How much can you receive, and on which rail?

Airtel Payments Bank enabled round-the-clock NEFT in December 2019, and NEFT runs 24x7x365 nationally, so a transfer sent on a Sunday night is not waiting for Monday.

The IFSC is not only a NEFT field: NPCI lists account number plus IFSC as one of UPI’s three transfer channels, so someone paying you through a UPI app can still ask for it.

RTGS is an awkward fit. The RBI sets a ₹2,00,000 minimum on an RTGS transfer, and ₹2,00,000 is also the entire end-of-day balance a payments bank customer may hold, so even the smallest RTGS payment lands exactly at the ceiling.

From 7 August 2025 the bank says it sets each customer’s transfer limits by risk assessment, in a revised monthly range of ₹3,00,000 to ₹7,00,000. Its published cash-withdrawal limit is ₹5,00,000 a month.

Can someone send money to an Airtel Payments Bank account from abroad?

Not by wire. Airtel Payments Bank publishes no SWIFT/BIC code and has no entry in our SWIFT directory, so there is nothing for an overseas bank to address a wire to. A form asking for one means the route is wrong, not the code.

There is no NRE or NRO route either: the RBI’s payments bank guidelines say no NRI deposits should be accepted, and its own rate sheet lists NRE and NRO accounts as not offered.

What to do when a transfer to Airtel Payments Bank fails

  1. 01Check the amount against the ceiling first — a credit that pushes the end-of-day total past the limit is not an IFSC problem.
  2. 02Read the account number out of the app, not from a saved contact.
  3. 03Confirm the sender used AIRP0000001, not the IMPS entry AIRP00000SC.
  4. 04A failed NEFT is credited back to the sender, so have them check their own statement before re-sending.
  5. 05If money left the sender’s account and never arrived, raise it with the sending bank, then Airtel Payments Bank on 1800-23400 or wecare@airtelbank.com.

Frequently asked questions

What is the IFSC code for Airtel Payments Bank?

AIRP0000001. Airtel Payments Bank uses a single IFSC for every customer in India, registered to its head office at Airtel Centre, Udyog Vihar Phase 4, Gurugram. There is no city-specific or branch-specific version to look up.

Is the Airtel Payments Bank IFSC the same for all customers?

Yes. Because it is a payments bank that operates through banking points rather than branches, there is nothing for a second code to identify. This directory does list one other entry, AIRP00000SC, but it is labelled “Airtel Payments Bank IMPS” rather than a customer branch — AIRP0000001 is the code to give a sender.

What is the SWIFT code for Airtel Payments Bank?

It does not publish one, and there is no Airtel Payments Bank entry in our SWIFT directory, so there is nothing for an overseas bank to address a wire to. The bank does not offer NRE or NRO accounts either. For a bank wire from abroad, the money has to land at a bank that holds a BIC.

What is the MICR code for Airtel Payments Bank?

The source dataset records no MICR code against either Airtel Payments Bank entry; the field is empty. MICR is a cheque-clearing code and is not interchangeable with IFSC. NEFT uses the account number and IFSC, and NPCI also lists account number plus IFSC as one UPI channel.

How much money can I receive in an Airtel Payments Bank account?

The binding rule is a balance limit, not a transfer limit. The RBI allows a payments bank customer to hold at most ₹2 lakh at the end of the day, counting the wallet, savings and current account together, and Airtel Payments Bank publishes a maximum savings balance of ₹1,97,000. Above ₹2 lakh the excess is moved at end of day to a sweep-out account at partner bank Suryoday Small Finance Bank; customers who declined that sweep cannot go beyond ₹1,95,000 at all.

Can I use the Airtel Payments Bank IFSC for UPI?

NPCI lists account number plus IFSC as one of UPI’s three transfer channels, alongside Virtual ID and Aadhaar. In the account-number-and-IFSC mode, AIRP0000001 is the code to give. NEFT also uses the account number and IFSC.

How do I find my Airtel Payments Bank account number?

Open the Airtel Payments Bank section inside the Airtel Thanks app and look at your account details; there is no separate bank app to install. The first passbook is issued free of charge if you would rather work from paper. Do not assume the number is your current mobile number — the bank’s FAQ states that an account number stays the same even after a customer changes their phone number.

Is Airtel Payments Bank a real bank, and is my money safe there?

It is a licensed bank with a restricted mandate. The RBI circulated Airtel Payments Bank Limited’s inclusion in the Second Schedule to the RBI Act on 4 January 2022, and its payments bank guidelines say eligible deposits are covered by DICGC insurance. The restrictions are on the lending side: a payments bank cannot lend and cannot issue credit cards.
