In short
How does Glide keep your money safe?
Glide uses several security layers: Privy-backed wallets for everyday crypto access, Safe and Squads multisig vaults for treasury, clear boundaries between self-custody and partner-held fiat, KYC/KYB and screening on regulated rails, and documented recovery paths. These controls reduce specific risks, but users must still protect credentials, verify recipients, and understand who holds each balance.
Safety starts with knowing who holds what
Glide's custody page draws a boundary between wallet assets, treasury vaults, and fiat or partner balances. Personal and operational wallets are provisioned through Privy. Business treasury can use on-chain Safe vaults on enabled EVM networks or Squads on Solana. Money held through banking partners, EMI rails, or card programmes follows those partners' custody and protection rules rather than Glide smart contracts.
| Balance or control | Where control sits | Protection to verify | Risk that remains |
|---|---|---|---|
| Embedded wallet assets | Privy-backed wallet infrastructure and the user's authentication | Export and recovery path, supported chains, signing controls | Credential compromise, provider dependency, chain and smart-contract risk |
| Safe treasury vault | On-chain EVM owner set and threshold | Current owners, threshold, proposal rules, independent access | Signer compromise, poor threshold choice, malicious approved proposal |
| Squads treasury vault | On-chain Solana multisig members and threshold | Member keys, threshold, independent Squads access | Key loss, member collusion, Solana programme and network risk |
| Partner-held fiat | The named banking or payment partner under its own terms | Account title, safeguarding or deposit treatment, closure and redemption process | Partner outage, freeze, eligibility change, bank or programme dependency |
| Stablecoin balance | Wallet or provider plus the stablecoin issuer and chain | Issuer terms, redemption route, contract, network, and custody | Issuer, depeg, smart-contract, address, and network risk |
Embedded wallets for everyday access
Glide says personal and operational wallets are provisioned through Privy: the user authenticates, while signing remains in the wallet infrastructure. Its public terms also name Privy for authentication and embedded-wallet infrastructure. This separates authentication in Glide's app from signing in the wallet infrastructure, but it does not make login security optional.
- Use a unique, protected email account and the strongest authentication method offered for the Glide and wallet login.
- Understand the export or recovery flow before depositing a material balance; do not learn it for the first time during an outage.
- Never share a recovery phrase, private key, one-time code, or screen-control session with someone claiming to be support.
- Verify the token, network, destination, and amount on the final signing screen rather than trusting a copied message.
- If you export a wallet, secure the exported secret immediately; exporting changes the operational risk even if the address stays the same.
Multisig for business treasury
For business and treasury use, Glide's public materials describe Safe vaults on enabled EVM networks and Squads multisig accounts on Solana. The owner or member set and approval threshold are on-chain. Glide helps create proposals, collect approvals, and relay a ready transaction; it says it does not silently replace the configured signers.
What a treasury control looks like in practice
Choose solo or team control at creation
Glide describes a solo 1-of-1 option and M-of-N team vaults. The team owner set is committed in on-chain vault creation.
Define an approval threshold
Require enough independent signers to resist one compromised account without making ordinary operations impossible when one signer is unavailable.
Apply policy before approval
The trust page describes value rules that can allow, deny, delay, or require additional signatures, with organisation defaults and vault overrides.
Review the actual proposal
Signers should inspect destination, token, chain, amount, and proposal type. A multisig can faithfully execute a bad transaction that enough owners approve.
Change ownership through a proposal
Owner additions, removals, and threshold changes go through the vault's proposal process rather than an invisible Glide database edit.
Compliance controls around money movement
Glide's compliance page describes multi-vendor KYC/KYB, Chainalysis-backed screening on money-moving paths, preflight screening before broadcast, a rule engine for anomalous patterns, alert administration, and compliance exports. Although that page says product gates may differ, Glide's current account terms require KYC before access to any account functionality.
| Feature | Control | What it is designed to reduce | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|---|
| KYC/KYB | Anonymous or misrepresented access to regulated features | That every verified user or company will behave lawfully | — |
| Sanctions preflight | Broadcasting to a destination identified by the screening control | That every unflagged address is safe, honest, or recoverable | — |
| Pattern monitoring | Unusual activity that warrants automated or human review | That an unusual payment is criminal or that a normal-looking one is harmless | — |
| Audit and compliance export | Missing operational evidence during review or reconciliation | That every event was authorised merely because it was recorded | — |
| Policy-gated agent writes | An agent acting outside its scoped grant or policy envelope | That the user's instruction, counterparty, or underlying purpose is correct | — |
The public terms make the trade-off explicit: Glide may hold, delay, block, or reverse a transaction flagged for review, and may restrict an account for suspected fraud, sanctions matches, missing KYC information, legal requirements, or a terms violation. Those controls can protect the system and meet partner requirements, but “instant” should never be read as “immune from review.”
Fiat protection is not stablecoin protection
Glide's terms, last updated March 30, 2026, name Column N.A. as the bank holding USD deposits. They say eligible USD deposits at Column may receive FDIC insurance up to $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank, for each ownership category, subject to FDIC rules. The custody trust page states the broader rule: fiat or EMI balances follow the relevant partner's protection terms, not Glide smart contracts.
The same terms identify Bridge for identity verification, card issuance, and stablecoin-to-fiat conversion. That makes the transaction a chain of services rather than one Glide balance moving in isolation. Before relying on a protection, determine whether the asset is still a stablecoin, is being converted, is in transit, or has become a bank deposit.
Data protection and operational evidence
Glide's public terms state that personally identifiable information is encrypted at rest with AES-256 and in transit with TLS 1.3. Its data-retention policy separates personally identifiable, financial, compliance, and operational data, and describes environment-specific encryption keys and access restrictions. These are Glide's published controls, not a claim in this article that an independent certification was obtained.
Operational records are another control layer. Glide's trust pages describe exportable audit information, alerts, proposal status, and failure recording so an on-chain success is not silently left without an audit trail. Records help investigation and reconciliation after an event; they do not prevent every bad instruction before it happens.
Recovery if Glide is unavailable
Glide publishes a survival guide because platform uptime should not be the only way to reach self-custody assets. For an EVM Safe, it says operators can import the on-chain Safe address into Safe Wallet and use the same owner signers. For Solana, the same members can use the Squads interface or command-line tools. Embedded wallets follow Privy's export or recovery methods.
Prepare the recovery record before you need it
Record every vault address and chain
An address without its network can point an operator to the wrong environment or explorer.
Record owners, members, and threshold
The surviving signers must still satisfy the on-chain policy; Glide cannot lower it during an outage.
Keep recent transaction hashes
They help locate the right on-chain account and establish the last known state without relying on an app history view.
Store partner account references separately
Fiat balances follow the partner's support, redemption, and closure process, so keep statements and identifiers available offline.
Test without moving material funds
Confirm that authorised people can locate the vault, connect the intended signer, and understand the independent interface before an emergency.
Your part of the control system
- Verify a new beneficiary through a second trusted channel, especially after an email or messaging-account change.
- Read the final destination, chain, token, and amount at approval time; do not approve from a notification preview alone.
- Separate treasury signers across people and devices, and remove departed team members promptly through the vault process.
- Keep only operating funds in an everyday wallet and use an appropriately configured vault for material treasury balances.
- Review whether a displayed balance is self-custodied crypto, partner-held fiat, or a stablecoin in conversion before assuming protection.
- Report suspected account compromise immediately and preserve transaction IDs, timestamps, messages, and screenshots for investigation.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Does Glide hold a master key to self-custody funds?
Glide's custody page says it does not hold a hidden master key to self-custody assets. Embedded wallet signing uses Privy's infrastructure, and on-chain treasury authority follows the Safe or Squads owner set and threshold.
Can Glide change my multisig signers?
The public multisig page says owner additions, removals, and threshold changes go through proposals, and Glide does not silently replace signers. Protect the existing signer keys because approved owners still control those changes.
Are all Glide balances FDIC-insured?
No. Glide's terms limit the statement to eligible USD deposits held at the named insured bank under FDIC rules. Stablecoins at Bridge or in a Privy-provisioned wallet before conversion are expressly not FDIC-insured.
Why can a Glide payment be delayed or blocked?
KYC, sanctions screening, monitoring, suspected fraud, missing information, a legal request, or a terms violation can trigger review or restriction. A safety and compliance control can add friction to a transaction.
What happens to a Safe if Glide is offline?
The Safe remains an on-chain account. Glide's survival page says the same owners can import its address into Safe Wallet on the correct chain and continue under the existing threshold.
Is a screenshot of my vault enough for recovery?
No. Glide recommends storing the address, chain, owner set, threshold, recent transaction hashes, and partner references. A screenshot can be incomplete, outdated, or unavailable with the compromised device.
Does Glide claim a security certification?
This article makes no such claim. It reports the custody, multisig, compliance, encryption, partner, and recovery controls in Glide's current public materials without converting those statements into an unstated certification or licence.
