Which PNC routing number do you need?

PNC answers this itself. Its routing-number page says the code “can differ depending on where you opened your account and the type of transaction you make”, then adds that “incoming wire transfers have a different routing number than the one displayed on your account”.

How to find your own PNC routing number

  1. Open the PNC Mobile app

Select the account, then Account and Routing Numbers. PNC sends a one-time passcode before showing the full number.

  2. Or sign on to Online Banking

Select the checking or savings account, then View Account/Routing Number below the account name.

  3. Or read the bottom of a check

Routing number first, nine digits; the PNC account number second, eleven digits.

  4. No chequebook? Use a posted check

Open a posted check in Online Banking and read both numbers off the image.

The repository snapshot contains 89 routing entries under PNC Bank, National Association, and every one passes the ABA check-digit test. That test can catch many transcription errors, but it does not tell you which valid PNC number belongs to your account.

Why PNC has 89 routing numbers

The Federal Reserve key organizes routing symbols by Reserve district and office. It also identifies a parallel range for thrifts and credit unions: in Districts 1 through 9, those routing numbers begin with 2. Those structural rules do not explain which historical entry belongs to a PNC customer.

In the repository snapshot, PNC’s 89 entries span routing prefixes associated with seven of the twelve districts: twenty begin 06, sixteen begin 07, fifteen begin 04, and eighteen are in the 23, 24, 26, 27 and 28 thrift ranges. This describes the file, not a customer routing guide.

What PNC charges to send and receive a wire

Figures as published in PNC’s Consumer Schedule of Service Charges and Fees, effective 31 May 2026. Performance Select Checking pays no PNC fee for incoming or outgoing domestic wires; other listed consumer accounts pay the rates below.

PNC consumer wire fees, May 2026
WireFee
Incoming domestic$15, or $0 on Performance Select Checking
Outgoing domestic, self-service$25, or $0 on Performance Select Checking
Outgoing domestic, agent-assisted$30, or $0 on Performance Select Checking
Incoming international, no minimum amount$15
Outgoing international in USD, self-service$40
Outgoing international in foreign currency, self-service$5
Outgoing international, agent-assisted$50

PNC lists foreign-currency exchange as “dependent upon current applicable PNC exchange rate” and says incidental or correspondent-bank costs may also apply. Ask for the current rate and total charges before authorizing a transfer.

Sending money into a PNC account from overseas

For an incoming international wire, PNC instructs the sender to use your account number and PNC’s SWIFT code, PNCCUS33, which its wire page also calls a routing BIC.

  • Outbound: 180+ countries, in US dollars or one of 20+ foreign currencies.
  • Inbound: your account number plus PNCCUS33 — PNC asks senders to verify details with you rather than reuse an old record.
  • A domestic wire needs four things: name, address, US routing number, account number.

For ten Latin American countries — Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia — PNC runs a cheaper remittance product instead: $5 from the app, $10 in a branch, expected within one business day, free to cancel within thirty minutes.

Setting up direct deposit with a PNC account

Most employers want two numbers and nothing else — PNC’s own wording is that “some employers only need your full account and routing number”. Give the number on your account, not 043000096. The app also has a Manage Direct Deposit flow that finds your payroll provider and files the switch for you.

PNC’s current direct-deposit page says funds are available when deposited, usually at midnight on payday. A new setup can still take from a day to a few weeks depending on the payer.

  • For direct deposit, provide the routing and account numbers PNC displays for your account.
  • For an incoming domestic wire, PNC publishes routing number 043000096.
  • For an incoming international wire, PNC publishes SWIFT code PNCCUS33.

Frequently asked questions

What is the PNC Bank routing number?

For a domestic wire arriving into any PNC account, PNC publishes 043000096. For direct deposit and other ACH payments there is no single answer: the Federal Reserve’s ACH directory carries 89 routing numbers under PNC Bank, National Association, and the one that applies to you is shown in the PNC Mobile app under Account and Routing Numbers, or printed at the bottom left of your checks.

Is PNC’s wire routing number different from my ACH routing number?

Yes, and PNC says so directly: “Incoming wire transfers have a different routing number than the one displayed on your account.” Use 043000096 only for incoming wires. For payroll, benefits or any other ACH credit, give the payer the number PNC shows on your own account.

Is the PNC routing number the same in every state?

Not for ACH. PNC’s own page says the code “can differ depending on where you opened your account and the type of transaction you make”, and publishes no state-by-state table. For incoming wires it is effectively one number — PNC gives 043000096 with no state qualification attached.

What is PNC Bank’s SWIFT code?

PNCCUS33. PNC’s wire-transfer page lists it as the code an overseas sender needs alongside your account number and calls it a routing BIC. For an incoming domestic wire, PNC instead publishes routing number 043000096.

Does PNC charge to receive a wire transfer?

As published in PNC’s Consumer Schedule of Service Charges and Fees effective 31 May 2026, an incoming domestic wire costs $15, or nothing on Performance Select Checking. An incoming international wire costs $15 with no minimum amount; the schedule does not list the domestic Performance Select waiver on that row. Prices are subject to change, so check the current schedule.

How many digits is a PNC account number?

PNC’s routing-number page describes the bottom of its checks as the nine-digit routing number first and the account number second, with eleven digits. Confirm the full number in PNC Online Banking or the mobile app rather than inferring missing digits.

Why does my PNC routing number show a Cleveland or Pittsburgh address?

The repository snapshot’s address is not reliable branch guidance. Forty-seven of PNC’s 89 entries are filed to Cleveland, Ohio and forty to Pittsburgh, with one each in Rocky Mount, North Carolina and St Charles, Missouri; several address fields are internal-looking locator codes. The FDIC records PNC Bank’s main office in Wilmington, Delaware. Use PNC’s branch locator for a visit.

How long does a direct deposit take to show up in a PNC account?

PNC’s current direct-deposit page says funds are available when deposited, usually at midnight on payday. Setting up a new deposit can take from a day to a few weeks depending on the payer; government payments through Go Direct typically take one or two pay cycles, or four to six weeks.
