TD Bank routing number

TD Bank does not have one routing number. It assigns them by region and publishes twelve, while the Federal Reserve’s ACH directory carries forty filed under TD Bank, N.A. The one you need is the one for the state where the account was opened — not the state you live in now.

Which TD Bank routing number do you need?

TD answers this in one line: “Your TD Bank routing number is based on where you opened your account.” If you have moved or the account history is unclear, confirm the number in Account Details rather than using your current address.

Where to find your TD Bank routing number

  1. Read the cheque

TD: “the first set of numbers on the bottom left of your TD Bank check”.

  2. Open the TD app or Online Banking

Account Details shows the routing number for that account.

  3. Check a statement

The same number is printed there if you have no cheques.

  4. Call TD

Customer service runs 24/7 on 1-888-751-9000.

TD’s direct-deposit form asks for the account number, routing number, and whether the account is checking or savings. Eligible employer payroll can also be enrolled digitally in the TD app or Online Banking without filling out the form.

Why the directory lists 40 TD routing numbers

TD publishes twelve routing numbers, while the repository ACH snapshot lists forty under TD Bank, N.A. FDIC records show earlier charter names including Penobscot Savings Bank, Peoples Heritage, BankNorth and TD Banknorth, but neither FDIC nor TD maps those names to the extra twenty-eight snapshot entries.

Ten snapshot entries begin 21 or 26, including the Massachusetts and Maine numbers TD currently publishes. The Federal Reserve key associates a leading 2 in Districts 1 through 9 with thrifts and credit unions. That numbering rule does not establish which predecessor produced any TD entry.

Direct deposit and incoming ACH at TD

TD accepts direct deposits into Checking, Statement Savings and Statement Money Market accounts.

Federal benefits need more: the Social Security or claim number, the twelve-digit number in the top right of the benefit cheque, the cheque amount, and the account and routing numbers.

Stopping a TD ACH debit, and the limits on transfers out

A recurring ACH debit can be stopped, but only ahead of time. TD requires the request “at least three (3) Business Days prior to the regularly scheduled payment date”, charges a fee set in its Personal Fee Schedule, and takes it in a store, on 1-888-751-9000, or in Online Banking.

One mismatch worth ruling out: the Fed’s directory carries two other TD filings — TD Bank USA, N.A., a separate FDIC-insured charter with three routing numbers, and a two-number “TD Bank, NA – Paycard Only” record. Both are filed as separate institutions.

Sending money to a TD Bank account from another country

A routing number is domestic. The Federal Reserve publishes FedACH and Fedwire participants as two separate lists, so the number that works for a direct deposit is not automatically the one a wire should quote. Ask for the wire instructions TD shows in Online Banking.

TD’s agreement is candid about the rest: a foreign-currency wire “will be converted at our rate of exchange on the day the transaction completed and we may earn revenue on this exchange”, on top of a fee it may charge on any incoming wire.

TD’s agreement does not state a fixed exchange rate or incoming-wire fee amount. Obtain the current wire instructions, fee and rate from TD before the sender authorizes the transfer.

Frequently asked questions

What is the routing number for TD Bank?

There is no single one. TD assigns routing numbers by region and publishes twelve — for example 011103093 for Connecticut, 031201360 for New Jersey and Delaware, 036001808 for Pennsylvania and 067014822 for Florida. TD’s rule is that “your TD Bank routing number is based on where you opened your account”, so check the number on your own cheque, statement or the Account Details screen in the TD app before you use a list.

Is the TD Bank routing number the same in every state?

No. TD publishes twelve different regional numbers, and the repository ACH snapshot carries forty entries under TD Bank, N.A. Use TD’s account-opening-location table and confirm the result on your cheque, statement or Account Details before submitting a direct-deposit or ACH form.

Which TD Bank routing number do I use for direct deposit?

The one for the region where the account was opened. TD’s direct deposit form asks for three things together — your account number, your routing number, and whether the account is checking or savings — and TD accepts direct deposits into Checking, Statement Savings and Statement Money Market accounts. You can also enrol digitally in the TD app or Online Banking, which fills in the numbers for you.

What is the TD Bank routing number for New Jersey?

TD publishes 031201360 for New Jersey and Delaware together. The Federal Reserve key lists 0312 under Philadelphia, but it does not explain why TD groups the two states. Follow TD’s table and your account details.

What is the TD Bank routing number for Massachusetts?

TD publishes 211370545 for Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The Federal Reserve key associates leading 2 routing numbers in Districts 1 through 9 with thrifts and credit unions, but that historical numbering rule does not establish this entry’s provenance. TD’s current table is the authority for its customer use.

Why is my TD routing number different from the one I found online?

TD publishes twelve numbers by account-opening region, while the repository snapshot contains forty entries under TD Bank, N.A. FDIC lists several prior charter names but does not map them to individual routing numbers. Use the number on your cheque, statement or Account Details rather than a directory default.

Is the TD Bank wire transfer routing number the same as the ACH one?

Do not assume it is. The Federal Reserve keeps FedACH participants and Fedwire participants as two separate lists, and TD’s public routing-number page covers only the twelve regional numbers used for cheques and electronic payments. For a wire, get the instructions TD shows in Online Banking or ask the bank directly.

Can I stop a recurring ACH payment from my TD account?

Yes, if you act early enough. TD’s Personal Deposit Account Agreement requires the stop-payment request at least three business days before the scheduled payment date, charges a fee listed in its Personal Fee Schedule, and accepts the request in a TD store, on 1-888-751-9000, or through secure online banking. If you order the stop three or more business days ahead and TD fails to act, the agreement says TD is liable for your losses or damages.
