U.S. Bank routing number
There is no single U.S. Bank routing number. The Federal Reserve’s ACH directory lists 45 of them under U.S. Bank NA, and the one your payment needs is the one attached to your account — not whichever number came up first in a search result.

Which U.S. Bank routing number is yours?
Read it off your own account, not a list. U.S. Bank publishes four places it appears, all from the same record.
Bottom-left of a check
Nine digits in the bottom left corner, then your account number, then the check number.
Ask the mobile app
Open the U.S. Bank Mobile App, select Smart Assistant and say “What’s the routing number for my checking account?”
Online banking
Pick the account from your dashboard; the top box shows the routing number beside the last four digits of the account number.
Account tab, personal or business
In the Details tile, select Show next to the last four digits — the routing number sits beneath them.
Why does U.S. Bank have 45 routing numbers?
U.S. Bank’s wire FAQ states that “some larger banks may have multiple routing numbers for banks in different states or regions.” This directory indexes 45 under U.S. Bank NA, all in the table on this page.
What the directory cannot do is tell you which of the 45 is yours. All 45 carry the same servicing address — EP-MN-WN1A, St. Paul, MN 55107 — the address U.S. Bank files with the Federal Reserve for every one, not the branch that opened your account. A page mapping a number to a state is inferring.

ACH, wire or SWIFT — which code does the payment need?
U.S. Bank draws the line in one sentence: “ABA numbers are used for paper or check transfers. ACH numbers are used for electronic transfers.” Either way it is domestic only, “used only for domestic transfers within the United States.”
| Payment | What U.S. Bank asks for | Where it clears |
|---|---|---|
| Direct deposit / ACH | Account type, account number, routing number | FedACH |
| Domestic wire | Full name as on the account, account number, routing number | Federal Reserve |
| International wire | Name, account number, SWIFT USBKUS44IMT, U.S. Bank, 200 S 6th St, Minneapolis, MN 55402 | Swift system |
Timing follows the rail. Same-day domestic wires go out only on business days, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CT, and cannot be cancelled once submitted; a future-dated one can be changed until 11:59 p.m. CT the day before. On the ACH side the Federal Reserve excludes transactions above $1,000,000 from same-day processing.
Using the number for direct deposit
Direct deposit is where most people actually need the number. U.S. Bank asks for the account type — checking or savings — plus the account number, the routing number and your Social Security number, and warns a change can take one to two pay periods, varying by employer.
- The app and online banking can find your payment provider and push the change, verified in real time — no form changes hands.
- If your provider is not listed, download a prefilled PDF from your login, or complete a blank authorisation form.
- For federal payments the DIY flow misses, U.S. Bank points to godirect.gov. Later edits go through your employer, not the bank.
What U.S. Bank charges to move the money
U.S. Bank has already published the Consumer Pricing Information disclosure effective 10 August 2026. The fees below come from that schedule; confirm the effective schedule before sending.
| Wire | Fee |
|---|---|
| Domestic incoming | $20.00 |
| Domestic incoming, internal | $15.00 |
| Domestic outgoing | $30.00 |
| Domestic outgoing, internal | $25.00 |
| International incoming | $25.00 |
| International outgoing | $50.00 |
The schedule also addresses exchange-rate cost: U.S. Bank says foreign funds are converted “at a retail exchange rate established by U.S. Bank” and that the rate “will include our profit, fees, costs and charges.” Confirm the applicable rate before authorizing a transfer.
If the routing number is wrong
Routing numbers are always nine digits, and this page checks the ABA 3-7-1 checksum. That only detects some transcription errors; a checksum-valid number can still belong to the wrong institution, so verify the destination independently.
- 01Re-read the nine digits against the app, not a printed list — leading zeros are what spreadsheets drop.
- 02Check the name: U.S. Bank asks senders for your full name exactly as it appears on the account.
- 03A same-day wire already submitted cannot be cancelled — U.S. Bank says the funds leave immediately and cannot be returned. Call 800-USBANKS (872-2657).
- 04If the money came from outside the United States, check whether the sender used a routing number at all — it will not route. Use the SWIFT code.

Frequently asked questions
What is the routing number for U.S. Bank?
There is not one. This directory lists 45 routing numbers filed under U.S. Bank NA in the Federal Reserve’s ACH directory, running from 042100175 to 307070115, and the one your payment needs is whichever is attached to your account. The fastest way to get it is to look at the bottom left of a U.S. Bank check, or open the U.S. Bank Mobile App, select Smart Assistant and ask “What’s the routing number for my checking account?”
Why does U.S. Bank have different routing numbers in different states?
U.S. Bank’s wire transfer FAQ explains it directly: “some larger banks may have multiple routing numbers for banks in different states or regions.” What no public source will give you is a reliable number-to-state map. Every one of the 45 Federal Reserve records for U.S. Bank NA carries the identical servicing address in St. Paul, Minnesota, so the directory itself cannot say which state a given number was issued for — and neither can we. Check your own account.
Is the U.S. Bank routing number for wire transfers different from the one for direct deposit?
The U.S. Bank sources checked do not publish a universal separate wire routing number. Its routing-number page and knowledge base tell customers to retrieve the number attached to their own account. The bank distinguishes the uses: “ABA numbers are used for paper or check transfers. ACH numbers are used for electronic transfers.” If a payer requests special wire instructions, ask U.S. Bank directly rather than assuming.
What is the U.S. Bank SWIFT code?
USBKUS44IMT. U.S. Bank publishes it on its routing number page and repeats it in its knowledge base, because a routing number will not work for money arriving from abroad — routing numbers are, in the bank’s words, “used only for domestic transfers within the United States.” For an incoming international wire the sender also needs your name as it appears on the account, your full account number, and the address U.S. Bank, 200 S 6th St, Minneapolis, MN 55402.
How do I find my U.S. Bank routing number without a check?
Two ways, both inside your own account. In the U.S. Bank Mobile App, select Smart Assistant and say “What’s the routing number for my checking account?” In online banking, select the account from your dashboard and read the top box, where the routing number sits beside the account name and the last four digits of the account number. On the Account tab of either channel, choosing Show next to those four digits reveals the routing number directly beneath them.
How much does U.S. Bank charge for a wire transfer?
In the Consumer Pricing Information schedule published for 10 August 2026: incoming domestic is $20, outgoing domestic $30, incoming international $25 and outgoing international $50. If both accounts are at U.S. Bank, domestic fees are $15 incoming and $25 outgoing. Smartly Checking benefits for customers aged 18 to 24 cover the first two incoming wires per statement period, and the Gold tier lists domestic and international incoming wire fees as waived. Confirm which schedule is effective when you send.
What is the cut-off time for a U.S. Bank wire transfer?
Same-day domestic wires can only be sent on business days between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CT, and once you submit one it cannot be cancelled. A wire scheduled for a future date can be changed or cancelled until 11:59 p.m. CT the day before it sends. Wires started in the app or online banking are domestic and in US dollars only; international wires have to go through a branch or 24-Hour Banking on 800-USBANKS (872-2657).
What do I give someone so they can pay into my U.S. Bank account?
For a domestic payment: your full name as it appears on the account, your full account number, and your routing number. For an international one, swap the routing number for the SWIFT code USBKUS44IMT and add the incoming wire address, U.S. Bank, 200 S 6th St, Minneapolis, MN 55402. For direct deposit specifically, your employer also needs the account type — checking or savings — and your Social Security number, and U.S. Bank can generate a prefilled authorisation PDF for you rather than making you transcribe anything.
