Which Capital One routing number is yours?
The one shown inside your own account. Capital One’s current personal-account help page publishes no number or state table; it directs you to the routing number in your own account details.
On capitalone.com
Sign in, click the account you need, then click the “view details” link to the left of your balance.
In the Capital One Mobile app
Sign in, select the account, scroll to “Account Details” and tap “View All”.
For a Small Business check
The nine digits at the bottom left can differ from the account-details number; Capital One says either can receive direct deposits, wires and ACH payments for Small Business accounts.
On a paper statement
If you are not enrolled in digital banking your account number is at the top of the statement, but Capital One asks you to phone in for the routing number.
That is not evasion on Capital One’s part — it is the only workable answer. All 80 routing numbers filed under Capital One, N.A. in this snapshot carry the same Richmond, Virginia servicing address, so this record cannot identify which number belongs to a particular customer account.
Why does Capital One have 80 routing numbers?
Capital One, N.A. is the surviving charter in a long merger history. FDIC records establish which institutions merged into it and when; they do not establish which of the 80 routing numbers came from each institution.
| Bank absorbed | Home state | Merger effective |
|---|---|---|
| North Fork Bank | New York | 1 August 2007 |
| Chevy Chase Bank, F.S.B. | Virginia | 30 July 2009 |
| ING Bank, fsb | Delaware | 1 November 2012 |
| Capital One Bank (USA), N.A. | Virginia | 3 October 2022 |
| Discover Bank | Delaware | 18 May 2025 |
FDIC and OCC records show the bank now called Capital One, National Association was established on 22 May 1933 and was formerly Hibernia National Bank of New Orleans before the name changed in April 2006. Capital One’s published SWIFT code, HIBKUS44, retains that Hibernia prefix; the repo SWIFT snapshot also lists a Houston Hibernia code and two North Fork codes under Capital One, N.A.

As checked on 8 August 2026, Capital One charges a $15 incoming wire fee on Essential Checking, High-Yield Checking and Essential Savings; its help page says all other account types are not charged. A domestic wire is deposited and available the same business day if received by 5 p.m. ET, while an inbound international wire takes three to five business days.
Sending a wire from a Capital One account
| Channel | Fee | Sends | Cut-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Online | $30 | Domestic only | 2 p.m. ET |
| Phone | $30 | Domestic only | 3 p.m. ET |
| Branch | $40 | International only | 3 p.m. ET |
The split is unusual and catches people out: individuals cannot send a domestic wire in a branch, and cannot send an international wire any other way. Online daily limits run to $500,000 to a title company and $50,000 to a person or company, with no limit to an external account you have linked — though that link must have been on file for 30 days first.
Small Business checks: two routing numbers can work
Capital One gives this guidance specifically for Small Business banking: “Your bank account and check have different routing numbers, but you can use either for receiving direct deposits, wire transfers and ACH payments.” The cited page does not extend that rule to every personal account.
- Between two Capital One accounts: instant.
- Capital One out to an external bank: one to three business days.
- External bank in to Capital One: posts the same business day if set up before 5 p.m. ET, subject to standard holds.
- You may link at most three external accounts for transfers.
What happens if the routing or account number is wrong
- 01Read the nine digits back against the recipient’s own account screen before you send, not against a directory.
- 02To check whether a wire actually went out, Capital One asks you to call 1-800-655-2265.
- 03If Capital One stops a domestic outgoing wire, it refunds the fee.
- 04Report an error in writing when you discover it or within fourteen days after the statement is made available, whichever is earlier. Missing that deadline releases Capital One from an obligation to pay interest on an amount for which it is liable.

Frequently asked questions
What is the routing number for Capital One?
There is no single one. This historical directory snapshot lists 80 routing numbers under Capital One, National Association, beginning with 021200407. Capital One’s current personal-account help page does not print a number; it directs you to sign in on capitalone.com or the mobile app and read “View Details” for the specific account. Use that live account detail rather than a static list.
Is the Capital One 360 routing number different?
Capital One’s current personal-account help page does not publish a separate 360 number; it tells customers to open “View Details” in the app or website. Capital One’s 360 disclosures identify the bank as Capital One, N.A., and FDIC records show ING Bank, fsb merged into that bank on 1 November 2012. The snapshot here records 031176110 under Capital One, N.A., but confirm against your own account.
Does Capital One have a separate routing number for wire transfers?
It does not publish one. Capital One tells senders that the information they need is “Your Capital One account and routing numbers”, found under “View Details” in the app or on the web — the same number used for ACH. For Small Business accounts Capital One goes further and says the account routing number and the cheque routing number are both usable “for receiving direct deposits, wire transfers and ACH payments”.
What is Capital One’s SWIFT code?
HIBKUS44. Capital One publishes it on its wire transfer help page, together with the bank address international senders should use: 1680 Capital One Drive, McLean, VA 22102-3491. The page labels it a “swift code (IBAN)”, but the value is an eight-character BIC, which is what a sending bank actually needs. In the SWIFT directory HIBKUS44 is registered to Capital One, N.A. in New Orleans — a leftover from the Hibernia National Bank charter Capital One renamed in April 2006.
Does Capital One charge a fee to receive a wire transfer?
For most accounts, no. As checked on 8 August 2026, Capital One charges $15 for an incoming wire on Essential Checking, High-Yield Checking and Essential Savings and says all other account types are not charged. Sending costs $30 online or by phone and $40 in a branch under the current channel table. Check the live page before relying on those figures.
Why does my Capital One Small Business check show a different routing number from the app?
Capital One’s Small Business help page says: “Your bank account and check have different routing numbers, but you can use either for receiving direct deposits, wire transfers and ACH payments.” That statement is scoped to Small Business banking; for any other account, use the routing number in the account details or confirm with Capital One.
What happened to Capital One Bank (USA), N.A. and routing number 051405515?
FDIC records show Capital One Bank (USA), National Association of Glen Allen, Virginia — certificate 33954 — merged into Capital One, National Association without assistance, effective 3 October 2022; its last financial report was for 30 September 2022. This directory still carries it as a separate entry with two routing numbers, 051405515 and 104914050, because the underlying data is a historical Federal Reserve ACH extract. Confirm either number with Capital One before you use it.
How long does a transfer to a Capital One account take?
Capital One states that transfers between two of your own Capital One accounts are instant; transfers out to an external bank take one to three business days; and a transfer pulled in from an external bank posts the same business day if it is set up before 5 p.m. ET, subject to standard hold times. Wires are faster — a domestic wire received by 5 p.m. ET is available the same business day.
