Axis Bank IFSC code

Take it from something the bank printed, not from memory. Axis Bank’s IFSC page notes that banks print the branch code on the cheques they issue, so a chequebook leaf is the fastest reliable source you own.

UTIB looks wrong for a bank called Axis, and it catches people out daily. Axis Bank’s corporate profile records that it was “earlier known as UTI Bank” and began operations in 1994; all 7,041 codes indexed here still open with those four letters, then the zero the RBI fixes in the fifth position.

Axis is unusual in that its branch identifiers are mostly numbers, not an abbreviation of the branch name. Of the 7,041 codes here, 6,417 end in six digits — UTIB0000004 is the Mumbai branch on Sir P M Road at Fort. Another 126 end in six letters and 498 mix the two, matching the bank’s own wording: the last six are “usually numeric, but can be alphabetic”. A letter after the zero is not automatically a typo; a letter O in place of the zero always is.

A recurring surprise: the passbook says a co-operative bank, but the IFSC begins UTIB. Both can be right. 564 codes here begin UTIB0S, and 508 name a co-operative bank or credit society rather than an Axis branch — UTIB0SALUCB is The Alnavar Urban Co-operative Bank. These sponsored codes are part of why 7,041 directory codes exceed the 6,275 branches Axis reported on 31 March 2026.

Send to the code you were given and check the beneficiary name your app echoes back. Never “correct” a UTIB0S code to a nearby Axis branch because the names disagree.

For an account-number-and-IFSC instruction, use the beneficiary’s current branch code. The available rail depends on the amount and channel.

The pattern is simple: online is free, the counter is not. The RBI told banks “to not levy any charges from their savings bank account holders for NEFT funds transfers initiated online with effect from January 01, 2020”. Axis prices online NEFT and RTGS at nil, and charges for the same instruction at a branch.

An IFSC alone will not bring money into India — it is a domestic routing code. A wire needs Axis Bank’s SWIFT code, which the bank tells senders to enter as AXISINBBXXX.

• Beneficiary name, account number and purpose of remittance — Axis treats purpose as part of the instruction, not an optional note.
• The receiving branch name and the IFSC: Axis asks senders for both alongside the SWIFT details.
• Charges marked “OUR”, which Axis says avoids deductions at the beneficiary’s end.
• Axis states no minimum or maximum, and credit within 48 hours.

A failed NEFT comes back on its own. RBI rules require the destination bank to return a transaction it cannot credit “within two hours of completion of the batch in which the transaction was processed”. If neither credit nor return appeared, the fault is in the instruction, not the rail.
