Axis Bank IFSC code

Axis Bank runs on 7,041 IFSC codes and yours is exactly one of them. The first five characters, UTIB0, never change. The six after them identify the branch, so one wrong character can keep the beneficiary account from being credited.

How to find your Axis Bank IFSC code

Take it from something the bank printed, not from memory. Axis Bank’s IFSC page notes that banks print the branch code on the cheques they issue, so a chequebook leaf is the fastest reliable source you own.

  1. Look at a cheque leaf

Axis Bank says branches print their IFS code on cheques issued to customers.

  2. Open Axis Mobile or internet banking

Use the bank-issued account details rather than a nearby branch’s code.

  3. Search the branch table below

Every indexed record has a page with its IFSC and street address; MICR appears where the dataset publishes one.

What the characters in a UTIB0 code mean

UTIB looks wrong for a bank called Axis, and it catches people out daily. Axis Bank’s corporate profile records that it was “earlier known as UTI Bank” and began operations in 1994; all 7,041 codes indexed here still open with those four letters, then the zero the RBI fixes in the fifth position.

UTIB
Bank code — identical on every Axis Bank code
0
Always the digit zero, never the letter O
000003

Axis is unusual in that its branch identifiers are mostly numbers, not an abbreviation of the branch name. Of the 7,041 codes here, 6,417 end in six digits — UTIB0000004 is the Mumbai branch on Sir P M Road at Fort. Another 126 end in six letters and 498 mix the two, matching the bank’s own wording: the last six are “usually numeric, but can be alphabetic”. A letter after the zero is not automatically a typo; a letter O in place of the zero always is.

Why a UTIB0 code can carry another bank’s name

A recurring surprise: the passbook says a co-operative bank, but the IFSC begins UTIB. Both can be right. 564 codes here begin UTIB0S, and 508 name a co-operative bank or credit society rather than an Axis branch — UTIB0SALUCB is The Alnavar Urban Co-operative Bank. These sponsored codes are part of why 7,041 directory codes exceed the 6,275 branches Axis reported on 31 March 2026.

Send to the code you were given and check the beneficiary name your app echoes back. Never “correct” a UTIB0S code to a nearby Axis branch because the names disagree.

When an Axis Bank IFSC code is required, and what it costs

For an account-number-and-IFSC instruction, use the beneficiary’s current branch code. The available rail depends on the amount and channel.

Domestic rails into an Axis Bank account. Charges are for savings and salary accounts, as published August 2026.
RailAmount and availabilityAxis charge
NEFTNo RBI amount ceiling; 24x7x365, half-hourly batchesNil online; ₹2–₹24 at a branch, by slab
RTGS₹2,00,000 minimum, no ceiling; 24x7x365 since 14 December 2020Nil online; ₹20 or ₹45 at a branch
IMPSPriced by Axis in slabs up to ₹5 lakh₹2.50, ₹5 or ₹10 by slab, taxes extra

The pattern is simple: online is free, the counter is not. The RBI told banks “to not levy any charges from their savings bank account holders for NEFT funds transfers initiated online with effect from January 01, 2020”. Axis prices online NEFT and RTGS at nil, and charges for the same instruction at a branch.

Sending money to an Axis Bank account from overseas

An IFSC alone will not bring money into India — it is a domestic routing code. A wire needs Axis Bank’s SWIFT code, which the bank tells senders to enter as AXISINBBXXX.

  • Beneficiary name, account number and purpose of remittance — Axis treats purpose as part of the instruction, not an optional note.
  • The receiving branch name and the IFSC: Axis asks senders for both alongside the SWIFT details.
  • Charges marked “OUR”, which Axis says avoids deductions at the beneficiary’s end.
  • Axis states no minimum or maximum, and credit within 48 hours.

What to do when a transfer to Axis Bank fails

A failed NEFT comes back on its own. RBI rules require the destination bank to return a transaction it cannot credit “within two hours of completion of the batch in which the transaction was processed”. If neither credit nor return appeared, the fault is in the instruction, not the rail.

  1. 01Read the fifth character back: UTIB0 uses the digit zero, and a letter O is the commonest typo here.
  2. 02Check the last six characters against the beneficiary’s cheque or app, and the account number for leading zeros a spreadsheet ate.
  3. 03If the code starts CITI0, it belongs to a different institution — get the current UTIB0 code.
  4. 04Quote the transaction reference to the sending bank if nothing is credited and nothing returned.

Frequently asked questions

What is the IFSC code of Axis Bank?

There is no single code. This directory indexes 7,041 Axis Bank IFSC codes — one per branch or participating institution — and every one of them begins UTIB0. UTIB0000003 is the Ahmedabad branch at Trishul, Law Garden, Ellis Bridge; UTIB0000004 is the Mumbai branch on Sir P M Road at Fort. Use the code printed on the beneficiary’s cheque or shown in their Axis Mobile app.

Why does the Axis Bank IFSC code start with UTIB and not AXIS?

Because of the bank’s former name. Axis Bank’s corporate profile describes it as “a new generation private sector bank earlier known as UTI Bank” that started operations in 1994. The four-letter bank code in the IFSC is still UTIB: all 7,041 Axis Bank codes in this directory begin UTIB0, and none begins AXIS. A code starting AXIS is not an Axis Bank IFSC.

Is the Axis Bank IFSC code the same for all branches?

No. Only the first five characters, UTIB0, are shared. The last six identify the branch and change with it — 6,417 of the codes here end in six digits, 126 in six letters and 498 in a mix. Confirm all eleven characters from current bank-issued details.

What is my IFSC code after the Citibank to Axis Bank migration?

It is an Axis Bank code beginning UTIB0, and you should read it from your Axis app, statement or chequebook rather than infer it. Axis Bank states that it “finalized its acquisition of Citibank’s Indian consumer business in 2023 and fully transitioned in 2024”. Axis does not publish an old-to-new IFSC mapping for those accounts, so a saved CITI0 code should be replaced with whatever the account now shows, not translated.

What is the SWIFT code for Axis Bank?

Axis Bank tells overseas senders that its SWIFT code “can be mentioned as AXISINBBXXX”. It is not interchangeable with an IFSC: the SWIFT code identifies the bank across borders, while the IFSC identifies one branch inside India. Axis’s guidance for inbound wires asks for both, plus the beneficiary name, account number and the purpose of the remittance.

Does Axis Bank charge for NEFT and RTGS transfers?

Not online. Axis Bank’s published schedule for savings and salary accounts lists NEFT (Online) and RTGS (Online) as nil, with unlimited free NEFT transactions per quarter. At a branch, NEFT is ₹2, ₹4, ₹14 or ₹24 by amount, and RTGS is ₹20 between ₹2 lakh and ₹5 lakh or ₹45 above it. Check the current schedule for the account variant.

Can an Axis Bank IFSC code contain letters after the zero?

Yes, though it is the minority case. Axis Bank’s own IFSC page says the last six characters are “usually numeric, but can be alphabetic”, and the data bears that out: 6,417 of the 7,041 codes here end in six digits, while 624 contain at least one letter. So do not assume a letter is a typo — but the fifth character is always the digit zero, never the letter O.

Why does my UTIB0 IFSC code show a co-operative bank instead of Axis Bank?

Because not every code in the UTIB0 range names an Axis Bank branch. 564 of the codes here begin UTIB0S, and 508 of those carry the name of a co-operative bank or credit society — for example UTIB0SALUCB, The Alnavar Urban Co-operative Bank. If that is the code your account holder gave you, use it as given and verify the beneficiary name your app echoes back; do not substitute a nearby Axis branch code.
