Bank of India IFSC code

Bank of India IFSC records use eleven characters to identify the receiving branch or sponsored institution. The first five are always BKID0 and the last six are usually digits, so verify every character from current beneficiary details.

How to find your Bank of India IFSC code

Take it from something the bank printed, not from memory. A Bank of India branch code is mostly digits, and digits are the easiest thing in banking to transpose.

  1. Check the chequebook

Use a current bank-issued cheque or other account detail that prints the IFSC.

  2. Open BOI Mobile or net banking

Use the IFSC displayed in current bank-issued account details.

  3. Use the bank’s branch locator

Use Bank of India’s current official branch search; the archived URL cited in the draft captured only a bot challenge.

  4. Search the branch table below

All 7,176 records have a page with branch and address fields; 434 have no MICR in the dataset.

What the characters in a BKID0 code mean

BKID
Bank code — identical on every branch
0
Always the digit zero, never the letter O
000001
Branch — Mumbai Main, Mahatma Gandhi Road

Bank of India numbers its branches instead of abbreviating them. Of the 7,176 codes indexed here, 5,644 end in six digits running from 000001 to 009992. The rest mix letters and digits and are mostly back-office entries — BKID000L031 is the Lead District Manager office in Kannauj, BKID000ZA34 the zonal audit office in Bhopal. A letter in the tail is unusual, not wrong.

Why some BKID0 codes are not Bank of India branches

This is the trap specific to Bank of India, and not a small one: 1,343 of the codes indexed here — nearly one in five — begin BKID0MG and belong to Madhya Pradesh Gramin Bank, a regional rural bank that Bank of India sponsors and that runs on the BKID0 prefix. Their branch names start MPGB, and BKID0MG9999 is its head office in Indore.

What Bank of India charges, and when the IFSC is required

All three domestic rails route on the beneficiary’s branch IFSC: the RBI’s NEFT form asks for the “Beneficiary’s Branch IFSC”, RTGS for the “IFSC number of the receiving branch”. What changes is the amount and the price.

Outward charges from Bank of India’s schedule effective 1 July 2023, excluding GST
RailAt a branchInternet or mobile banking
NEFT₹2 up to ₹10,000, rising to ₹24 above ₹2 lakhFree
RTGS₹25 from ₹2–5 lakh; ₹49 above ₹5 lakhFree
IMPSNil up to ₹1,000, then ₹1–₹5 by slab to ₹5 lakhNil

The RBI’s limits sit on top. RTGS carries a ₹2,00,000 minimum “with no upper or maximum ceiling” and has run 24x7x365 since 14 December 2020. For NEFT, RBI says it imposes no amount limit, though a member bank may set one; the system runs round the clock.

Sending money to a Bank of India account from overseas

An IFSC will not bring money into India — it is a domestic routing code. A wire needs Bank of India’s SWIFT code. BKIDINBB is the head-office BIC in Mumbai; branch BICs add three letters, and 222 are indexed here.

In the correspondent list archived in February 2024, Bank of India published JP Morgan Chase Bank, New York for US dollars (CHASUS33, ABA 021000021); Bank of India, London for pounds (BKIDGB2L, sort code 609390); and its Paris and Tokyo branches for euros and yen. Confirm current routing before sending.

What to do when a transfer to Bank of India fails

A failed NEFT should come back on its own: the RBI requires the destination bank to return a transaction it cannot credit “within two hours of completion of the batch”. If nothing was credited and nothing came back, the instruction itself is what to check.

  1. 01Read BKID0 back character by character — the fifth character is the digit zero, never the letter O.
  2. 02Check the six characters after it against the beneficiary’s chequebook or app — digits transpose silently.
  3. 03If the code begins BKID0MG, the beneficiary bank is Madhya Pradesh Gramin Bank — correct the bank name on the form, not the code.
  4. 04Confirm the account number too — a correct IFSC with a wrong account number fails the same way.
  5. 05If nothing is credited and nothing is returned, quote the transaction reference to the sending bank.

Frequently asked questions

What is the IFSC code of Bank of India?

There is no single code — every Bank of India branch has its own. All of them begin BKID0, and the six characters after it identify the branch: BKID0000001 is Mumbai Main on Mahatma Gandhi Road, and BKID0SABPAI is the Bandra Kurla Complex branch at C-5, G Block, BKC, Bandra East, Mumbai 400051. This directory indexes 7,176 codes carried under the BKID prefix.

Is the Bank of India IFSC code the same for all branches?

No. Only the first five characters, BKID0, are shared. The last six change with the branch or sponsored institution, and there are 7,176 distinct codes in this directory. Confirm the full code from current beneficiary details.

What is the SWIFT code for Bank of India?

BKIDINBB is Bank of India’s head-office BIC in Mumbai. Branch BICs add three letters to it — BKIDINBBADH is the Andheri (West) branch, for example — and 222 Bank of India BICs in India are indexed here. A SWIFT code moves money across a border; an IFSC routes it inside India. They are not interchangeable, and an international wire needs the SWIFT code.

Did Bank of India merge with another bank — has my IFSC code changed?

Bank of India was not amalgamated in the public sector bank consolidation. The RBI still lists it as one of eleven nationalised banks, with its head office at Star House, C-5, G Block, Bandra Kurla Complex, Bandra (East), Mumbai 400051. So unlike Vijaya, Dena, Syndicate or Corporation Bank customers, you have no merger mapping table to consult: if an old BKID0 code has stopped working, ask the account holder for the one their passbook or app shows now.

Why does my Bank of India IFSC code start with BKID0MG?

Because the account is at Madhya Pradesh Gramin Bank rather than Bank of India itself. Bank of India sponsors that regional rural bank and its branches use the BKID0 prefix — 1,343 such codes appear in this directory, with branch names beginning MPGB and the head office, BKID0MG9999, in Indore. The transfer will route correctly on the code; just name Madhya Pradesh Gramin Bank as the beneficiary bank wherever a form asks.

Does Bank of India charge for NEFT and RTGS transfers?

Not through internet or mobile banking. Bank of India’s schedule of service charges, effective 1 July 2023, shows outward NEFT and RTGS as free through those channels for savings and CC/OD/CD account holders. At a branch it lists NEFT at ₹2 up to ₹10,000, ₹4.50 up to ₹1 lakh, ₹14 up to ₹2 lakh and ₹24 above that, and RTGS at ₹25 between ₹2 lakh and ₹5 lakh and ₹49 above ₹5 lakh. Those figures exclude GST and schedules are revised, so confirm the current one before a large transfer.

Is the MICR code the same as the IFSC code?

No. The dataset stores IFSC and MICR separately: Mumbai Main is BKID0000001 with MICR 400013087. Of the 7,176 Bank of India records indexed here, 434 carry no MICR. Use the beneficiary’s IFSC for an account-number-and-IFSC instruction.

Can I use a Bank of India IFSC code to receive money from abroad?

No — an IFSC is a domestic routing code and will not bring funds into India on its own. An inward wire uses Bank of India’s SWIFT code plus a correspondent bank, and the bank publishes which one it uses per currency: JP Morgan Chase Bank, New York (CHASUS33, ABA 021000021) for US dollars, Bank of India, London (BKIDGB2L, sort code 609390) for pounds sterling and Bank of India, Paris (BKIDFRPP) for euros. The beneficiary’s name and account number are still required.
