Bank of Baroda IFSC code

Use a source the bank printed itself. Bank of Baroda re-coded thousands of branches after absorbing two other banks in 2019, so a remembered code is the least reliable option here.

Bank of Baroda’s own IFSC finder puts it plainly: “An IFSC code consists of 11 characters: four first ones represent bank code while fifth is always '0' and the last six identify the particular branch.”

Worth knowing before you retype anything: Bank of Baroda writes branch identifiers as letters, never numbers. All 10,149 codes indexed here end in six alphabetic characters — BARB0AJMERX is Ajmer Main, BARB0FORTAP the Mumbai Main Office. A digit after the zero is a typo, not a rare branch.

The most common reason a Bank of Baroda transfer fails today. Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank branches became Bank of Baroda branches on 1 April 2019, and their VIJB and BKDN codes were replaced as each branch migrated to Bank of Baroda’s core banking system through 2020.

The prefix is a hint, not a rule: plenty of merged branches were re-coded to ordinary BARB0 names, so only the bank’s old-to-new lookup settles it. A saved beneficiary or standing instruction still carrying a VIJB or BKDN code will bounce; ask the account holder for the code their app shows now.

All three domestic rails route on the beneficiary’s branch IFSC. Which one a payment takes depends on the amount and how fast it must land.

Cost rarely bites here. The RBI advised banks “to not levy any charges from their savings bank account holders for NEFT funds transfers initiated online with effect from January 01, 2020”. Bank of Baroda’s schedule, effective 1 July 2020, lists inward RTGS as nil and outward RTGS at ₹24.50 or ₹49.50 before GST, depending on the amount.

An IFSC will not bring money into India from abroad — it is a domestic routing code. A wire needs Bank of Baroda’s SWIFT code, BARBINBBXXX.

The bank’s FAQs on inward customer payments are specific about the rest: beneficiary name, account number, amount, currency and purpose of remittance. Purpose is mandatory. There is no limit on the amount remitted to India, and fifteen currencies are accepted, including USD, GBP, EUR, AED and SGD.

• Wiring in: BARBINBBXXX plus the fourteen-digit account number the bank asks for. The branch IFSC is not on its required list, though many forms still ask.
• NRE or NRO: say which. Interest on NRE deposits is not taxed in India; NRO interest is subject to TDS.

The one number nobody shows up front is the exchange rate, applied after the money has left. Glide puts the rate and the fee on screen before you send, so what lands is what you agreed to.

A failed NEFT comes back. RBI rules require the destination bank to return a transaction it cannot credit “within two hours of completion of the batch in which the transaction was processed”, and a credit is expected in the same window. If neither happened, the fault is in the instruction.
