How to find your Central Bank of India IFSC code

There is no single Central Bank of India IFSC — each branch has its own, and this directory indexes 4,774. Take the code from something the bank issued, not from memory: six digits are easy to misremember.

  1. Look at the chequebook

The bank’s IMPS page points here first — the IFS Code is “available in the users Cheque book”.

  2. Ask for current account details

Have the beneficiary confirm the full code from a current bank-issued record before you send.

  3. Use the branch locator

IFSCs of NEFT-enabled branches can be had from the Branch/ATM/BC Locator on the bank’s home page.

  4. Search the table below

Every branch here has its own page — IFSC, MICR, address.

What the numbers in a CBIN0 code mean

The Reserve Bank defines the shape: eleven characters, the first four identifying the bank and the last six the branch. Here the first four are always CBIN, the fifth the digit zero on all 4,774 codes.

CBIN
Bank code — identical on every branch
0
Always the digit zero, never the letter O
281067
Branch — Nariman Point, Mumbai

This is where the bank differs from its peers. 4,731 of the 4,774 codes end in six digits rather than letters, and 4,730 of those begin 28 — CBIN0280009, CBIN0281067, CBIN0284982. The only all-digit exception is CBIN0011102, the GAD Central Office.

Why some CBIN0 codes belong to a different bank

Forty-three codes break the numeric pattern, and each is labelled with another institution: thirty-nine CBIN0MPD codes naming cooperative banks in Madhya Pradesh, CBIN0MPABAA for the Madhya Pradesh Rajya Sahakari Bank, CBIN0CGDCBN for the Chhattisgarh Rajya Sahakari Bank, and CBIN0R10001 and CBIN0R40012 for two gramin banks. Verify the code and displayed recipient details before authorizing.

Central Bank of India’s current status

The Reserve Bank of India currently lists Central Bank of India under its own name among the public sector banks. That current status does not prove every historical CBIN0 code remains active, so confirm the beneficiary branch’s code rather than relying on an old payment instruction.

What Central Bank of India charges for NEFT and RTGS

For an account-number-and-IFSC transfer, use the beneficiary branch’s current code. NEFT has no minimum and, per the bank, no maximum for individuals. RTGS starts at ₹2,00,000 with no ceiling. Both services run round the clock.

Charges published on the bank’s NEFT and RTGS pages, August 2026
AmountAt a branchNet or mobile banking
NEFT up to ₹10,000₹2.50NIL
NEFT ₹10,000 to ₹1 lakh₹5.00NIL
NEFT ₹1 lakh to ₹2 lakh₹15.00NIL
NEFT above ₹2 lakh₹25.00NIL
RTGS ₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh₹24.50NIL
RTGS above ₹5 lakh₹49.50NIL

Branch figures are before GST and change, so check the bank’s current page. The nil online column matches the RBI’s instruction that banks levy no NEFT charge on savings account holders online. One limit trips people up: a walk-in paying cash cannot send more than ₹50,000.

Sending money to Central Bank of India from abroad

An IFSC identifies a domestic bank branch; an international wire needs the bank details and BIC specified by the receiving branch. The official Central Bank of India page checked does not publish a beneficiary BIC, so confirm the exact instructions with the branch before sending.

The bank says overseas remittance is available at its branches in USD, GBP, EUR, AUD, SGD, CAD and CHF among other currencies. It publishes nostro correspondents including Citibank New York for dollars, Commerzbank Frankfurt for euros and Standard Chartered London for sterling, while warning that those details change; confirm them with its International Banking Division first.

What to do when a transfer to Central Bank of India fails

RBI rules require the destination bank to return an NEFT it cannot credit within two hours of the batch completing. If nothing has arrived or returned, contact the sending bank with the transaction reference instead of assuming the cause.

  1. 01Read the code back one character at a time: CBIN, the digit zero, six digits.
  2. 02Check those digits against the beneficiary’s passbook or app — a transposed pair is a valid code for another branch, so nothing bounces on format alone.
  3. 03Confirm the account number has not lost a leading zero to a spreadsheet.
  4. 04A MICR is a different nine-digit number used for cheque clearing: CBIN0280009 in Patna carries MICR 800016002, and 275 codes here have none recorded.

Frequently asked questions

What is the IFSC code of Central Bank of India?

There is no single one — every branch has its own. All records here begin CBIN0, and most use digits for the branch part: CBIN0280009 is the Patna Main Office, CBIN0281067 is Nariman Point in Mumbai, and CBIN0280808 is Hyderabad Main. This directory indexes 4,774 codes. Use current bank-issued beneficiary details.

Is Central Bank of India the same as the Reserve Bank of India?

No. The Reserve Bank of India is the country’s central bank and banking regulator. Central Bank of India is a public sector commercial bank listed by the RBI. The CBIN0 IFSC codes on this page belong to bank and institution records in the Central Bank of India dataset, not to the RBI.

Has Central Bank of India been merged with another bank?

The Reserve Bank of India currently lists Central Bank of India under its own name among the public sector banks. That does not establish that every historical branch code remains current. Confirm an older CBIN0 code with the beneficiary branch before using it.

Why does my Central Bank of India IFSC have numbers where other banks have letters?

The RBI requires the last six characters to identify the branch but does not require letters. In this snapshot, 4,731 of 4,774 records end in six digits, and 4,730 of those begin 28. The fifth character in every code remains the digit zero in CBIN0.

What is the SWIFT code for Central Bank of India?

The official Central Bank of India pages checked do not publish a beneficiary BIC. Do not substitute an IFSC or rely on a public compilation: ask the receiving branch for its current international wire instructions and exact BIC before sending.

Does Central Bank of India charge for NEFT and RTGS?

Not through net or mobile banking — the bank’s NEFT and RTGS pages show NIL for that channel, consistent with the RBI’s instruction that banks levy no charge on savings account holders for NEFT initiated online from 1 January 2020. At a branch, the pages published in August 2026 show NEFT at ₹2.50 up to ₹10,000, ₹5 up to ₹1 lakh, ₹15 up to ₹2 lakh and ₹25 above that, and RTGS at ₹24.50 between ₹2 lakh and ₹5 lakh and ₹49.50 above ₹5 lakh, before GST. Charges change, so check the bank’s current page.

Can I use a Central Bank of India IFSC code for UPI or IMPS?

Yes. Central Bank of India’s IMPS page lists “Account number & IFS Code (P2A)” as one of the three ways to address a transfer, alongside mobile number with MMID and Aadhaar. Its UPI page likewise describes a payment identifier as “a combination of an account number and IFS Code or a virtual address”. In practice you will usually pay by UPI ID, but the account-plus-IFSC route is there when the beneficiary has no VPA.

Why does a code starting CBIN0 show a cooperative or gramin bank name?

Forty-three of the 4,774 CBIN0 records have letters after the zero and are labelled with other institutions: thirty-nine cooperative-bank records in Madhya Pradesh under CBIN0MPD, CBIN0MPABAA for Madhya Pradesh Rajya Sahakari Bank, CBIN0CGDCBN for Chhattisgarh Rajya Sahakari Bank, and two gramin-bank records. Verify both the code and recipient details before sending.
