Indian Bank IFSC code

The code you need belongs to the branch holding the receiving account, not the one nearest the sender. Three places give it to you exactly, all better than a remembered code.

   Look at a cheque leaf

   The RBI has advised every member bank to print the branch IFSC on the cheques it issues, so a leaf from the receiving account carries the code you need.

   Account details shows the IFSC of the branch your account is mapped to — the one a transfer is routed to.

   Search the branch table below

   Every Indian Bank code in the RBI master file, with MICR and address. The bank’s own locator searches the same IFSC codes.

No. Allahabad Bank was amalgamated into Indian Bank under a Government of India scheme dated 4 March 2020, and the RBI confirmed its branches would operate as Indian Bank branches from 1 April 2020. The two core banking systems, though, stayed separate until 13–14 February 2021.

• The bank’s notice puts the modified Branch Codes, MICR Codes and IFSC in effect from 15 February 2021, accounts migrated from 12 February.
• No arithmetic turns an ALLA code into an IDIB one — the branch identifier is different, so look it up.
• MICR changed in the same cutover, so a pre-2021 cheque carries two stale numbers, not one.
• UPI moved too: e-Allahabad customers were told to relink Google Pay and PhonePe under “Indian Bank”, on a VPA ending @indianbank.

The eleven-character layout is set by the Reserve Bank of India and is identical at every Indian bank. IDIB000A004, the Ahmedabad Main branch code, splits the way all of them do.

Indian Bank’s branch identifiers are alphanumeric, not purely numeric: nearly all read two zeros, a letter, then three digits. In most branches listed here that letter is the initial of the branch or its town — R021 is Royapettah, S692 is Siliguri.

All three domestic rails need the beneficiary’s branch IFSC. Which one a payment takes depends on amount and urgency, and Indian Bank prices each.

An IFSC does not cross borders. A sender outside India addresses the payment with Indian Bank’s SWIFT/BIC code, IDIBINBB; the IFSC then settles it on the right branch inside India.

• From another Indian account: the branch IFSC and the account number, nothing else.
• By wire from overseas: IDIBINBB, the account number, the beneficiary’s name as the bank holds it, and the branch IFSC wherever the form has a field for it.
• Into an NRE or NRO account: say which, because the two differ on tax and repatriation.

Indian Bank’s schedule charges nothing on a non-trade foreign-currency inward remittance below USD 3,000 or equivalent, and ₹550 above that, excluding GST — waivable for credits to an NRI account holder. That is only the receiving side of the transfer: the sending bank’s own fee, and the exchange rate it converts at, are set abroad and appear nowhere in this schedule.

Tamil Nadu holds the most Indian Bank branch codes here, fitting a bank incorporated in Chennai in 1907. But Uttar Pradesh runs it close and West Bengal is third — Allahabad Bank’s heartland, not Indian Bank’s. The table below is two networks in one code range.

So if the branch sits in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand or West Bengal, a code written down years ago is worth re-checking.
